Manchester City are understood to be preparing a January offer for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean who was a key target for City in the summer window made no secret of his desire to leave the Emirates last summer and even came agonizingly close to an exit on deadline day after City had an offer of £60million accepted by the Gunners.

All was not to be in the end as Wenger blocked his exit considering what was too little time left of the window to sign a capable replacement.

Following the collapse of the move, Wenger had suggested that the Chilean would see out the entirety of his contract and then depart on a free at the end of the season, reports are however indicating that Guardiola who is desperate to sign Sanchez is set to tempt the Gunners with a new bid when the winter transfer window opens in January.

The Citizens are of the believe that the Gunners may be forced into accepting an offer for the player who will have just months to run on his contract by then.

According to the Daily Mail via Daily Cannon, City are said to be willing to cough up £20m for Alexis in January rather than wait for him to become available for free at the end of the season.

The report further states that should the move be completed, Sergio Aguero will apparently become more likely to be available for transfer.

While cashing in on him when the window opens in January makes excellent financial sense, it will be suicidal for the Gunners to hand arguably their best player to a direct rival at the midway point of the season.

Whilst some Gooners may urge Wenger into a deal if it indeed puts Aguero into the market, they also fail to realize that even if the Argentine is open to the idea of moving to the Emirates, he would not be a direct replacement for Sanchez as they play slightly different positions on the field.
