Reliable German source confirm Arsenal target has fixed date to complete move

Bernd Leno will decide whether or not to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer in the next few days, according to reports in Germany, with Arsenal and Liverpool interested in his signature.

Bild report that Liverpool have now joined the race for the goalkeeper, matching previously reported interest from Arsenal and Atletico Madrid. Napoli were also in the picture at one point, but that’s no longer the case.

The German outlet claims “the decision should fall in the next few days” and add that it will certainly be before the World Cup.

There’s no real reason for that to be the case though, since Leno isn’t in the squad for Germany anyway. He made the initial long-list, but not the final 23, with Manuel Neuer, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Kevin Trapp ahead of him.

Regardless, any team wanting to sign the goalkeeper will reportedly have to pay around €25m (£22m). That’s a fee Arsenal could afford at the moment, given the free transfer of Lichtsteiner, as well as Sokratis and Adli reportedly joining for a combined fee of around £15m.

Personally, I’m still not convinced Leno is enough of an improvement on Arsenal’s current options. We’ll find out soon enough whether the Arsenal hierarchy think the same or not.
