Arsenal remain interested in Thomas Lemar as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez, despite failing to sign the winger last year.
Wenger spent the entirety of last summer chasing Lemar as a replacement for Sanchez but for several reasons, a deal couldn’t be struck. Monaco initially proved difficult to convince to sell but after Arsenal broke their resistance with a £90m bid on deadline day, the player blocked the move.
Sanchez is still attracting interest from Manchester City and Arsenal still have to sign a replacement.
There were reports of Liverpool surging ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Lemar, forcing the Gunners to begin to keep tabs on a host of host midfielders.
However, according to L’Equipe via the Daily Star, Arsenal are remain confident of signing Lemar.
The report says if Arsenal agree to sell Sanchez this winter, it would turn to Lemar to fill in the void.
The winger is Arsenal’s priority and would test Monaco’s resolve to keep him. The report claims the French club could be tempted into selling even though their manager Leonardo Jardim has already ruled out a January deal.
Arsenal-Lemar-Sanchez story is already sounding boring to some Gooners. While Lemar is a good player, I don’t think he is the only one out there capable of replacing the Chilean. If we get him, good. If we don’t, then we move onto other targets.
