Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira believes that midfielder Aaron Ramsey is the best player in the Premier League and has also praised Arsene Wenger for keeping his faith in the midfielder.
The Wales international has netted 13 times in 27 appearances this term although he has not featured for the Gunners since Boxing Day due to a thigh injury.
Vieira believes that the 23 year old has developed into one of the stars in the division and has been vital for the Gunners push towards the title.
“Aaron has been terrific and fantastic,” Vieira told Daily Star. “He has been the best and most consistent player in the Premier League.
“At the start of the season he was fantastic because of the number of goals he scored from midfield but also the number of goals he created.
“If Arsenal are top it’s because he has been the best player as the start of the season.”
The Gunners legend also praised Wenger for maintaining his trust in Ramsey, whose early career at Arsenal was disrupted after he suffered a double leg break in February 2010.
“Arsene is really good at developing and trusting young players,” he added.
“What’s stopped Ramsey’s progress was injuries in the last few years but now he has sorted that out.
“Credit to Arsenal and Arsene who believed in him.
“And credit to Aaron as well because even with all the injuries, he’s kept working hard, believing in himself and that he could make it.
“The ability has always been there and I’m pleased he is now showing what he is capable of.”
Ramsey has been in excellent form until he got injured in late December and has been one of the forces behind the Gunners impressive first half of the season. He has been one of the stand out performers in the League and the rise has been even more impressive considering the criticism he endured over the past few campaigns from critics and fans alike.
Wenger should also be credited for Ramsey’s performances as it is his patience that has turned him into the world class player he is now. Ramsey is expected to return back from injury against Southampton on Tuesday.
Can Ramsey continue his excellent performances and help Arsenal win the title this season?
