Jack Wilshere is close to signing a new contract at Arsenal, after months of negotiations with the club.
The midfielder have been in talks with the club for quite sometime, with an agreement expected in December but it has taken nearly two months for both parties to reach.a compromise.
According to the Metro, Wilshere is set to commit his future to the club by signing a new deal worth around £90,000 per week.
The midfielder’s future has been the subject of intense speculation since he went to Bournemouth on loan last season.
There were uncertainty whether he’d return to the Emirates after the loan spell and when he eventually did, there were reports that Wenger may not offer him a contract extension.
However an injury free season and a return to top form has seen him climb his way back into the manager’s plans again and he is now set to be rewarded with a new deal.
Wenger himself is keen on Wilshere staying and is positive that the midfielder will officially put pen to paper in no-distant-time.
‘We try to make progress and I told you that many times for [Mesut] Ozil,’ said Wenger.
‘I’m positive because I want him to stay. I do the maximum I can to make him happy.’
Apparently, why an agreement has been difficult to reach is because Arsenal want him to take a reduced basic salary that could surpass his current wages with incentives like number of appearances and goals but Wilshere’s camp wanted a straight-forward offer.
Either ways, it is good that both parties are gradually coming to a compromise and will finalize negotiations in the coming weeks.
