Not Jonny Evans, Arsenal Moves In For Veteran Defender

Arsenal will kick of their season opener this Sunday against Liverpool without Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista due to injury.

According to the Express, citing source from French publication SFR Sport are reporting Arsenal have shifted their attention to Barcelona’s veteran defender Jeremy Mathieu.

Arsene Wenger have revealed he is still very much in the transfer market and has indicated he will sign a defender before the end of the transfer window.

The report states Arsenal have made enquiry about the availability of Mathieu for a possible move to the Emirates this summer.

Mathieu,32, fell down the pecking other at Camp Nou after the signing of Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne from Lyon and Paris St-Germain respectively.

The former Valencia defender has made 49 appearances for Barca since joining them in 2014.

In my own opinion, I don’t think this deal will pull through I feel it’s mere media talk as I don’t see Wenger signing him due to his age.
