Martin Keown feels Draxler transfer won’t happen

Julian DraxlerArsenal legend Martin Keown believes the Gunners won’t sign Julian Draxler this month and suggests that any big name transfer will be reserved for the summer.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a £37 million move for the German international in the January transfer window but Keown believes the Gunners current position at the top of the league in a very tight title race will mean Wenger will only be interested in bringing in someone that can make an immediate impact.

“If Arsenal are going to buy a player now, it’s got to be a ready-made player, like Mesut Ozil was,” he told Talk Sport.

“Wenger is the sort of manager who deals himself a hand at the start of the season, and then plays it.”

“He doesn’t like dipping in [to the market in January]. They’ll be saving their money for an Ozil like signing in the summer.”

Draxler is one of the most promising young players in Europe and will give the Gunners a completely new element with his direct style. The pacy midfielder can be deployed on the left wing or right behind the striker.

He is cup-tied in Europe and is currently not playing due to an ankle tendon injury and should be able to resume full training by mid-February.

Keown is right as Wenger generally prefers to do his business in the summer, but I think the situation is very different this time around. It seems the French manager has already made up his mind on bringing Draxler to the Emirates and is preferring a January move as he believes more clubs will be interested in the summer which might force a bidding war.

Although many might feel it’s too early to comment, I think Draxler is destined to be a Gunner but it’s remains to be seen whether it will happen this month or in the Summer.
