Lazio have identified Arsenal target Gelson Martins as a replacement for their outgoing midfielder Felipe Anderson, according to Italian daily Calciomercato.
Anderson is set to complete a €30 million move to Premier League side West Ham this summer, with Igli Tare already in London to trash out the deal. Lazio are now looking for a replacement and have turned their sights to the Sporting Lisbon wide man.
Gelson Martins have been targeted by Arsenal all summer as they look to add a pure winger to their ranks. They had a reported £26 million bid for him rejected by Sporting earlier, but they have still not been deterred.
Martins could become a free agent as he can terminate his contract at Sporting, which is looking even more likely after a fall out with the club president and an attack on some of the players by some fans during a training session after failing to qualify for the Champions league last season.
Lazio would be able to get him on a free, but will have to fight off competition from Arsenal and a number of other clubs.
The Gunners summer business have gotten into full gear, with a defender already signed up, a deal agreed for another and a move for a defensive midfielder almost completed, they would try to ensure Martins doesn’t slip through their hands as getting him on a free would be a very huge win, given their meagre budget this summer.
