Manchester City and Arsenal are discussing the transfer of Alexis Sanchez, according to reports.
Sanchez was close to joining City in the summer but Arsenal blocked the move. Pep Guardiola’s men had offered to pay £60m for the winger and considering he had just one year left in his contract, it was a fee too good to turn down. Arsenal immediately turned to Thomas Lemar to replace the Chilean but couldn’t complete the signing.
The Gunners had a £90m bid accepted by Monaco, only for the winger to opt against a move. Lemar’s reluctance to move meant Arsenal had to block Sanchez’s proposed move to City. This left the Chilean furious and since then he’s been a shadow of himself on the pitch.
His relationship with his teammates has reportedly gone sour and this has forced Wenger to consider a sale this month.
According to Goal, Man City and Arsenal are in talks over the transfer of the winger.
Arsenal have given up hope in convincing the Chilean to stay and are prepared to sell for £35m. However, City- which happens to be the player’s preferred destination are reluctant to pay that much. However, the Premier League leaders remain hopeful of succeding this time around but are keen to avoid protracted negotiations.
City want to pay around £25m and with Sanchez desperate to leave the Emirates for the Etihad, Arsenal may be forced to reduce their demands.
Whichever, it is high time the Sanchez saga is brought to an end. It’s lingered for too long and is apparently beginning to affect his performances on the pitch. We don’t want to keep a player who isn’t committed to our cause.
