Danny Welbeck is the biggest name at risk of being sold this summer as the club turn to trimming the squad after bringing in key reinforcements.
Along with David Ospina, the Englishman is reportedly on Unai Emery’s list as a player who could be let go.
You won’t find too many people crying over either player leaving, to be honest.
While fans love Danny Welbeck, you can’t help but think a lot of that affection stems from pity.
A great team player who can make things happen as an agent of chaos, Welbeck’s time at Arsenal has not been the greatest.
Two serious knee injuries have kept him sidelined for 514 days (and that doesn’t even take into consideration his groin, hip, and toe problems). In all, Welbeck has been an Arsenal player for around 1,400 days and out with a knee injury 36% of that time.
When he has been fit, he’s managed to score 27 goals (with 14 assists) in 112 games – a better rate than he managed at United but still only a direct goal involvement once every 156 minutes.
Welbeck is now in the last year of his contract so Arsenal’s choice is clear -sell or renew. Unlike with Aaron Ramsey, whom the club have made a big effort to re-sign, Welbeck seems much easier to let go.
Ospina, meanwhile, has been threatening to leave since he arrived after the 2014 World Cup. With the arrival of Bernd Leno and Petr Cech’s insistence that he’s staying, it looks like this could be the summer Dave finally gets his wish.
The Telegraph also report that Lucas Perez, Carl Jenkinson, Chuba Akpom, and Joel Campbell are all at risk of being sold which will surprise no-one.
Loans are reportedly being considered for Reiss Nelson, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith-Rowe, Jordi Osei-Tutu and Joe Willock.
