Stephy Mavididi intends to return to first-team training with Charlton Athletic next week after completing his rehabilitation from injury.
Mavididi picked up a hamstring injury in February, and Charlton originally said he would be out for around two months. Fortunately he seems to be ahead of schedule, and will return to training in the coming days.
According to the Charlton website, he’s targeting the Plymouth match on Saturday 24th March for a comeback.
However, they add the following note of caution: “Before he can be considered for match selection, Mavididi will require a re-integration period to allow him to adjust to the full intensity of training.”
Before his injury, Mavididi scored two goals and assisted one in just four league games for Charlton. The team won three in four matches as a result.
Without him, Charlton have only won one in six, and lost their last three consecutively. Hopefully the 19-year-old centre-forward can return and help get the team back on the right track.
Mavididi hasn’t had the best luck with his loan spells recently. Last year he spent some more time with Charlton, but only played five times before injury forced him back to Arsenal.
Then, at Preston North End for the first half of this season, he only started three matches. He was perfectly fit, the manager just didn’t give him opportunities.
Let’s hope he can stay fit and in the team between now and May.
