Southampton boss Manuel Pellegrino has confirmed his interest in signing Theo Walcott.
The Saints have been heavily linked with Walcott in recent weeks and Pellegrino has confirmed that those reports were indeed true.
However the Saints manager admitted that it won’t be easy to sign Walcott from Arsenal because of the huge amount of interest the winger is attracting.
“I have been talking about him,” he said.
“He is a good player, but I don’t know with the negotiations, with the market, I imagine that this type of player would have a lot of possibility. For us, it’s not easy.
“Hopefully we can bring somebody that can help us be stronger. This is our target now. We know the market is difficult, but we are working on that.”
Southampton recently raked in £75m from selling Virgil Van Dijk to Liverpool and are willing to spend some of that money to strengthen their squad.
However, it will take more than money to sign the winger because Everton who have a strong financial backing are also keen on his services.
Again Arsenal may be reluctant to sell in the middle of the season because Wenger doesn’t want to weaken the squad depth going into the most crucial parts of the season.
An exit will bring an end to a 11 year relationship between the winger and Arsenal. It’s not been all sweet but Walcott definitely has some beautiful moments in Arsenal jersey that Gooners will always remember him for.
