Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed he is interested in signing Lucas Perez.
Perez is one of the several players expected to leave Arsenal this summer but the club is yet to find a buyer for him. Suitors have so far refused to meet Arsenal’s €15m price tag and with the transfer window closing in a few weeks time, the Gunners are becoming desperate to ship the striker out.
Newcastle are one of the clubs that have been linked with the striker all summer but nothing is yet to materialize. However, Benitez has now confirmed talks with Wenger over the transfer of the 28 year old.
Speaking in a press conference, Benitez told reporters: “I said: ‘Listen, we have to talk.’ And he said: ‘Do you have some money?’ Obviously, we like good players, but it’s too soon to talk about that.”
The Magpies reportedly want to take the player on loan but Arsenal only want to consider a permanent sale as Wenger is determined to recoup majority of the £17m we paid to sign him last year.
Fenerbahce and Deportivo La Coruna are other clubs interested in the striker who started just one Premier League game for Arsenal last term.
A move away from Arsenal is definitely what Perez needs to get his career on track and the earlier he finds a new club the better.
