Arsenal vs Leicester: Player Ratings, Man of the Match and 2 FLOPS of the Match

Arsenal News HQ brings you the latest Arsenal news, match analysis, transfer news, injury news, team news and rumours from trusted media outlets around the world.

Arsenal’s season kicked off with a bang last after a dodgy 4-3 victory against Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium with goals coming in from Alexandre Lacazette, Danny Welbeck, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud.

Here’s how the players rated:

Cech (6): To be honest, all three Leicester City goals where not his fault since he had to with that type of defence and on-filed players failing to contest headers. Made some crucial saves too.

Monreal (6): We can’t entirely blame him for not putting in a “Koscielny” centre-back display – he’s a natural left-back. But I thought he did well on several occasions.

Holding (4) FOTM: I was kinda glad he had this poor game – though I would have hoped it happened when a Koscielny can come on to save the day. The lad needs to understand that there’s no room for complacency and talent is not enough without hardwork. He was also left alone far to many times by Bellerin though. But he’s one of our FLOPS Of The Match.

Kolasinac (8) MOTM: An absolute beast he is. To think that we bought him for free. Only thing he did wrong was not close down Vardy well enough for the second goal – which by the way was a hard request, considering how quick Leicester’s counter was.

Xhaka (6): Could have easily been our Flop Of The Match considering his involvement in two of Leicester’s goals. But his two assists and contribution going forward cannot go unnoticed.

Elneny (6): Gets a lot of sticks from fans – which is something that surprises me. Mo got an assist and cleared his lines quiet well for someone who gradually becoming a CB.

Ox (7): Great game, his versatility will be key for us if he can stay fit. Also don’t know why he is insistent on being a centre midfielder when he can get all the length of the field to run down the flanks.

Bellerin (6): Great positioning and play to the build up for Lacazette’s goal. Although he left Holding on his own far too many times.

Ozil (5) FOTM: Complain all you want, but Ozil is our second Flop Of The Match. To many lackadaisic display. With Huge income comes great expectations. Don’t believe the he’s not 100% match fit excuse. He had as many minutes in pre-season as most players out there!

Welbeck (6): Decent game. Did well to grab the second goal.

Lacazette (7.5): Great game. Even more better with the goal. Adapted well when Giroud came on also. He’s certainly hit the ground running.

Giroud (7): I’ve always said Giroud will play a key part if Arsenal are to go far this season. his crucial goals cannot be overlooked. Hopefully he can accept the centre forward rotation this season, with starts in some games also.

Ramsey (7): In his off days, he takes far to many touches on the ball which irritates me and kills his game at times. But when his game is ON and he keeps it simple, you can clearly see the talent in him. Great goal.

Walcott (N/A): He came on.
