Arsenal target Malcom has revealed he was keen to move to the Premier League in January.
Wenger had identified Malcom earlier in the January transfer window as the man to replace Alexis Sanchez but the club later turned their attention to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Talks between Arsenal and Bordeaux were held over the winger but nothing materialised because the French club were reluctant to sell and weren’t ready to drop their outrageous demand.
However, Malcom has now revealed he wanted to leave Bordeaux for the Premier League in the winter but had to stay accept he’ll stay after a meeting with his club’s president.
‘It’s my dream to progress in my career,’ the 20-year-old told French news outlet Telefoot . ‘I spoke to the president, he told me that he knew it was my dream, but that he needed me.
‘I told him he could count on me until the end of the season, I will do everything to help Bordeaux finish in the top six in Ligue 1.’
Arsenal weren’t the only Premier League club that tried to sign Malcom last month as Spurs were also interested before turning to Lucas Moura.
The Brazilian remain hopeful of making his dream move in the summer but it remains to be seen if it is Arsenal who would offer him that opportunity or some other club.
