Arsenal have now stepped up its interest in Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina, according to respected football journalist, Tancredi Palmeri.
Wenger is reportedly keen on strengthening our centre midfield options this summer and had identified Lemina as a key target before the end of last season.
The 23 year old midfielder recently admitted he is flattered by Arsenal’s interest and would be open to a move to the Emirates.
And Arsenal have now begun the process to make a move happen.
According to Palmeri via The Daily Star, Arsenal have held initial talks with Juventus about signing Lemina.
The Italian journalist revealed this via his twitter handle:
“Arsenal have contacted Juventus for Lemina,” he tweeted.
Lemina seem not to be in Juventus plans going into next season and he is set to hold talks with Max Allegri to clarify his future before the season starts.
“I think before pre-season, we’ll have a discussion about that,” said Lemina, when asked whether he will be leaving.
“We’re going to talk to each other. We’re going to see what they really want to do with me and what I want to do in terms of how much playing time I’ll get.
“We’re going to put everything on the table and speak about it calmly.
Wenger is a big fan of the midfielder’s style of play and it is believed he will bring in physical presence and steel to our midfield next term.
A price tag hasn’t been placed on the Gabonese but he isn’t expected to cost much considering he isn’t a regular at Juventus.
