Emiliano Martinez has signed a new contract at Arsenal, the club has confirmed.
The Argentine shot stopper is currently our third choice goalkeeper, behind Petr Cech and David Ospina. He has been Arsenal’s EFL cup goalkeeper this season and has kept clean sheets in all of our two games in the competition.
He is expected to mount the goal when we face Southampton in the quarter final stage of the competition but he has given himself, the fans and the club a huge boost before the game.
He has now signed a new long term contract at Arsenal that is expected to keep him here for many more years.
Wenger view the goalie as the club’s future no.1 and Arsenal thought it wise to tie the 24 year old goalie to a long term contract.
‘If you look at him, I personally see all the top qualities that a goalkeeper needs. I am very happy that he committed, because I think he is the future goalkeeper at this club,’ Wenger said after Martinez signed the new deal.
Martinez is on track to become the club’s goalie in the future but will have to be patient for his time, he may well receive an opportunity when age finally catches up with Cech.
The goalkeeeper joins Bellerin as the second Arsenal player to commit his long term future to the club in the last one week and this will definitely excite many Gooners as the club is showing it can keep its talented players.
