Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas believes Aaron Ramsey would leave the Emirates if Mesut Ozil signs a new contract.
Ramsey has been relegated to the periphery at Arsenal this season, featuring in just 15 Premier League appearances.
Injuries and poor form have limited the Wales international who is yet to score a league goal this term.
Fans have become frustrated with the midfielder, with some calling for him to be sold and Nicholas believes Ramsey’s future will be dependent on Ozil’s.
Ozil has just little over a year left in his current contract and there is no indication if he will sign an extension or not and the ex Gunner thinks if the German’s decides to stay, it will limit Ramsey’s opportunities.
‘If Ozil signs, he [Ramsey] will go,’ he told Sky Sports, as quoted by The Metro.
‘Because he plays that role, Cazorla is coming back next season [even though] he’s getting on in years.
‘Where’s he going to fit in?’
Nicholas does have a point, when everyone is fit, Ramsey could struggle to find a place in any of the centre midfield positions but we have also seen Wenger tucked the Welsh man on the right side of the midfield.
Also, with Arsenal’s poor injury record in recent years, one would say the presence of Ozil, Cazorla or any other star wouldn’t have any effect on Ramsey’s game time.
As for me, I think the Welsh man’s future will be dependent on his ability to get his form and fitness back, not necessarily whether Ozil signs a new deal or not.
