The Gunners have been linked with the 20 year old since last summer, but it appeared highly unlikely that he would move in this month’s transfer window.
Former Swindon Town striker Jan Aage Fjortoft who is now a respected journalist has claimed that Arsenal and Schalke have agreed a fee for Draxler. He is one of the more reliable out there having been the first to break the Ozil to Arsenal deal in the summer and has also proven to have solid information on several other deals in the past.
“I understand that Schalke and Arsenal have agreed a fee. If he will leave now I don’t know. But this is latest info”, he tweeted.
However Arsene Wenger brushed off the suggestion of a move when asked about it following Arsenal’s win at the Emirates.
“That again is an illusion”, he said to Espn.
“There’s nothing happening. Honestly, no. we have no need for players on the flanks, we have 17 players on the flanks. We don’t rule it out but at the moment I can’t announce anything.”
Here’s the moment on BT Sport when Wenger was asked about the report of Arsenal agreeing a fee for Draxler.
Wenger is not exactly known for his candidness when discussing transfer matters. Several newspapers have reported that we had sent officials over to German to hold formal talks with Schalke and now a few reliable sources have also posted that a deal has been agreed. It looks more and more likely that we will sign him this month and he will definitely give us a big boost in our pursuit of that elusive silverware.
I always love to see this smile. Are you excited by this piece of news?
