Arsenal 4 v 1 Sunderland: player ratings

Arsenal got themselves a nice no-stress victory crowned with a brilliant team goal by Tomas Rosicky. Here are the player ratings.

Wojciech Szczesny | 7.0: He should have done better with The Black Cats’ goal. Still, he had a few good moments during which he properly used his hands for a change.

Bacary Sagna | 8.5: Mr Reliable was Mr Versatile – a right full-back, a central defender, a left full-back. He should sign a new contract ASAP as there is no such player as Sagna on the market!

Per Mertesacker | 7.5: Another solid performance. Too bad we can’t afford a bit of rest for him.

Laurent Koscielny | 8.5: Scored his first goal of the season and did his usual defensive shift. Unfortunately, problems with his back forced him out but he should return before Stoke.

Nacho Monreal | 7.0: Got injured and substituted after the break. Didn’t excel but dealt with Adam Johnson well.

Mikel Arteta | 7.5: Returned to the team and gave a decent performance.

Jack Wilshere | 8.5: He was in the heart of everything we did well in the first half and was unlucky not to grab an assist for the perfect assist to Gnabry in the second. Unfortunately, he picked some sort of hamstring injury but he should be back soon.

Santi Cazorla | 7.5: Did well in the No. 10-role but was overshadowed by Rosicky and Wilshere.

Lukas Podolski | 7.0: Not a bad performance but hardly one that will help him re-claim a place in the starting eleven. Had one wonderful shot saved by Mannone.

Tomas Rosicky | 8.0: One of the players that a regular Gooner can count on. His goal was pure perfection.

Olivier Giroud | 8.5: Scored two goals and picked an assist – you can’t ask for more! His second goal reminded me of his finish against Southampton – he has shown a real poacher skill to exploit Vergini’s mistake.

Substitutes:

Carl Jenkinson | 6.5: Looked a bit rusty when he replaced Monreal. He should really get a grip and start using chances he gets.

Mathieu Flamini | 7.0: Memories of that Champions’ League-campaign when Flamini had to play as a left full-back springs to mind every time he is used there. He gives us a defensive solidity there but not an option in the attack.

Serge Gnabry | 6.5: Should have scored our fifth, hopefully we won’t remember that miss at the end of the season given that goal-difference is a tie-breaker. Looked lively and it’s good to know we can count on him as well.
